REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

GRADE: B ($12.00 per hour)

Bus Aides will be placed into a Bus Aide Trainee position pending completion of 40 hours of special education related training.  Hourly pay as a Bus Aide Trainee will be $12.00.    


SUMMARY: Ride Special Education buses and monitor students' behavior on the bus in order to assure adherence to safety rules while students are being transported.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist driver in securing wheelchairs, student restraints, and other safety equipment on the bus
  • Monitor and manage district approved discipline when students are on the bus
  • Maintain all aspects and provisions of confidentiality related to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Assist in loading and unloading of the wheelchair bus
  • Provide specified medical support for students on board the bus
  • Knowledge of emergency evacuation procedures
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  • Other job related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
  • Possess and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Successful completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NCI)

Experience/Training:

  • Successful completion of at least 40 hours of special education student related training
  • Successful completion of a Physical Performance Test (PPT)

Abilities:

  • Read, interpret, and implement Student Transportation Request (STR) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
  • Interact with and supervise students on bus
  • Manage student(s) with various types of disabilities
  • Physically able to assist in lifting wheelchairs and students
  • Effective communication skills
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification within thirty (30) days of employment
  • Pass physical agility test within first (ten) 10 days of employment.
  • Meet time schedules; be punctual and reliable
  • Work varying assignments
  • Adhere to all policies, regulations, and rules
  • Read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals
  • Write general correspondence and speak effectively with others
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms
  • Apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
