SUMMARY: Assist the Teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class for preschool students in which they can take full advantage of the instructional program.   Assist with the implementation of the Individual Education Plan for students with various types of disabilities and assist in general education curriculum on a continuum of services.

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                   

  • Follow a lesson plan, planning activities, and work assignments for small groups and individual students developed by the teacher.                  
  • Consults frequently with the teacher about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems and progress of the student.
  • Moves about classroom to help students and provide support.              
  • Assists the teacher in evaluating the progress of students through data collection.
  • Responds to new ideas, methods and suggestions from teachers.     
  • Demonstrates appropriate interaction with the students in the classroom.
  • Assists teacher with classroom management.                    
  • Maintain adequate and legible records concerning his/her student’s work with teacher direction.  
  • Assists students with activities of daily living, including hygiene and toileting.             
  • Attends district in-service workshops when release time or pay is given.                
  • Participate in the Medicaid Reimbursement program which includes maintaining monthly logs on eligible students; attending scheduled training and maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.      
  • Demonstrates professional and flexible attitude/rapport with other staff members.      
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.              
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.  
  • Adhere to all Department of Health licensing.                     
  • Other job related duties as assigned.                                       

EDUCATION:                                          

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.                                 
  • AA degree OR 60 college credit hours OR successful completion of Dysart approved exam.

EXPERIENCE:                                       

  • Experience working with early childhood or school age children preferred.      

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:                            

  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Possess a negative Mantoux TB Skin Test administered within 12 months of hire date or a health care provider's written and dated statement stating incumbent is free from infectious active TB issued within 6 months of hire date.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler's card.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work.
  • Basic mathematical, reading and writing concepts.
  • Applicable safety principles and practices.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Customer service principles.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.

  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.                                                                         

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class require:  stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

 

Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Working Conditions:  Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor environment including exposure to loud noise and being on your feet.
