SUMMARY: To assist in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class for preschool students in which they can take full advantage of the instructional program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in planning activities/work assignments for individual students
- Assists the teacher in carry out the activities/work assignments for individual students, e.g., individuals and small groups
- Follow a lesson plan, chart or guide evolved by teacher and aide
- Prepares the day’s lessons by assembling materials necessary for the daily plan
- Consults frequently with the teacher about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems and progress of the student
- Moves around classroom/lab to help students and answer questions
- Assists the teacher in evaluating the progress of students
- Responds to new ideas, methods and suggestions from teachers and aides
- Demonstrates professional and flexible attitude/rapport with other staff members.
- Demonstrates appropriate interaction with the students in the classroom/lab
- Assists teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and control
- Maintain adequate and legible records concerning his/her student’s work with teacher direction
- Assists the teacher with preparation of instructional materials
- Attends district in-service workshops for instructional aides when release time or pay is given
- Participate in the Medicaid Reimbursement program which includes maintaining monthly logs on eligible students; attending scheduled training and maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
- Other job related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Meet the NCLB requirements: AA degree OR 60 credit hours of college OR Successful completion of State approved exam
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona fingerprint clearance card (FPCC)
Experience:
- Experience in working with school age children
Certifications:
- Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification
- Possess a negative Mantoux TB Skin Test administered within 12 months of hire date or a health care provider's written and dated statement stating incumbent is free from infectious active TB issued within 6 months of hire date
- Obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler's card
- Obtain and maintain a valid state of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
- Four letters of recommendation (two Business/two personal)
Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
- Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
- Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
