SUMMARY: To assist the Principal in providing school-wide leadership.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Visits the classrooms or other places frequently and systematically.
  2. Objectively evaluates staff members according to the District schedule, or as needed, and follows District protocal for documenting and submitting to Human Resources Department.
  3. Provides written progress reports on detected areas of concern with each staff member on an ongoing basis.
  4. Assigns work to staff members according to the developed job description.
  5. Ensures adequate supervision of pupils and facilities.
  6. Confers with staff members and solves staff differences at the earliest possible time.
  7. Supervises and assumes responsibility for all school personnel in carrying out their responsibilities.
  8. Provides/coordinates in-service training to staff members on job requirements and procedures on an ongoing basis and requests assistance from District staff members in areas in which specific expertise is needed.

Plant Management:

  1. Assigns work responsibilities, inspects and supervises the cleanliness and care of the school facility.
  2. Makes a thorough inspection of school facilities for compliance with fire, insurance, and health requirements.
  3. Assumes the responsibility for the school facility assigned, is available after hours in case of fire or severe vandalism, and coordinates security for facilities and equipment to protect the interest of the District.
  4. Submits loss reports, self-inspection reports, etc. as scheduled.
  5. Assigns staff members to correct deficiencies on self-inspection and health department reports.
  6. Requisitions building maintenance for items not covered by school custodians.

Records and Reports:

  1. Assists in providing for storage, maintenance, and updating of policy handbooks, state statutes, departmental procedures, and curriculum guides, and annually reviews with the staff pertinent information contained in these documents.
  2. Provides for a school handbook and staff bulletins.
  3. Assists in providing orientation for school personnel; inspects and assumes full responsibility for accuracy in the registration of pupils, registers, attendance records, permanent record cards, confidential folders, inventory book, etc.
  4. Provides for the safe storage and management of all pupil records, and keeps all pupil records confidential.
  5. Provides for the timely submission of reports, as scheduled.

Program Implementation:

  1. Enforces the prescribed goals, scope and sequence, objectives, and subject-area time allotments.
  2. Schedules students to regular and special classes.
  3. Provides pupil assemblies to enrich the needs of the school and the community.
  4. Reviews instructional plans of instructional staff members to determine coverage of objectives and scope and sequence.
  5. Reviews teachers' records for objective recording of pupil progress.
  6. May assist in requisitioning supplies, materials, and textbooks to support the program and effectively manage the school allocations provided.

Pupil Achievement (shared responsibility with the Principal):

  1. Review pupil and class achievement with instructional staff members and alerts staff members to deficiencies and successes.
  2. Establishes a high achievement expectancy level for all instructional programs and activities.
  3. Makes recommendations for supplemental services to pupils and staff members to increase all areas of achievement.
  4. Objectively assesses overall pupil achievement and makes recommendations to staff members who do not meet expectancy levels.
  5. Assumes responsibility for school achievement.
  6. Enforces District policies on pupil promotion, retention, and state promotion/graduation requirements.

Pupil Management:

  1. Communicates the high expectancy level for student conduct to staff members and pupils.
  2. Establishes consistent written procedures for student conduct.
  3. Ensures investigation of reported misbehavior, including bully reports, and provides due process for each individual pupil.
  4. Enforces the uniform code of conduct in a fair and equitable manner.
  5. Makes recommendations for suspension, according to District procedures.
  6. Assumes full responsibility for a safe and orderly environment.
  7. Works to establish a low percentage of pupil absence, contacts parents, and begins court action for excessive absences.

Parent/Community Involvement:

  1. Works to establish and maintain parent involvement.
  2. Makes self available to civic organizations to interpret school programs.
  3. Provides the use of school facilities to community groups as per the District's policy and procedures.
  4. Ensures availability to parents and returns parent calls to solve student/school problems.
  5. Explains the educational program and District direction to the parents and community.
  6. Works with community groups to provide service to pupils needing assistance.

General Activities:

  1. Attends and participates in scheduled administrative meetings.
  2. Models appropriate dress for school environment.
  3. Frequently reviews District policies and procedures to enable appropriate enforcement.
  4. Attends Governing board meetings and is prepared to present innovative programs to the Board and the public as appropriate.
  5. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  6. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  7. Other job related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education/Certification:

  • Valid Arizona Administrative Certificate

  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
  • Master's degree or higher

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience
