TITLE: AVID Tutor

REPORTS TO: Principal

SUMMARY: Tutors are essential to the success of the AVID elective class, where they facilitate student access to rigorous curriculum. As students from colleges and universities, tutors receive formal training and also serve as role models. AVID students who continue their education in college often return to their high school as tutors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be positive and professional at all times.
  • Serves as a role model/mentor to AVID students.
  • Follows the guidelines set forth by the teacher and AVID.
  • Facilitate the tutorial learning process.
  • Learn and implement AVID methodologies.
  • Actively participate in collaboration groups and tutorials.
  • Assist students in maintaining their AVID binders.
  • Learn specific routines and expectations of each AVID teacher's classroom.
  • Participate in and complete the required tutor training.
  • Consults frequently with the teacher about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems, and progress of the students.
  • Assists the teacher in evaluating the progress/learning of students.
  • Adhere to all district/site policies and procedures.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and control.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
