TITLE: Assistant Child Care Facilitator - Before/After School Program

REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Program Manager

FLSA: Non-exempt

SUMMARY: To assist in providing a well organized, smoothly functioning before/after school program environment in which students can take full advantage of the activities and available resource materials.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Administrative Tasks Include:

  1. Center set up
  2. Assist with ordering equipment and supplies
  3. Assist with daily operation of the Center to continue meeting licensing, fire, and sanitation requirements
  4. Assist in processing participant applications and establishing student files

Staff and Volunteer Tasks Include:

  1. Assist with supervision of Volunteers, Tutors and other assigned staff
  2. Assist in establishing activity schedules consistent with program requirements
  3. Assist in the development of an efficient work team, through shared responsibilities

Parent Tasks Include:

  1. Ensure that all participating parents have read and signed the parent information book prior to child’s first day of enrollment
  2. Assist in designing and developing information for monthly program newsletter
  3. Ensure an open door policy with parent concerns

Children Tasks Include:

  1. Assist in preparation of flexible and creative activity schedules
  2. Maintain a clean and neat program environment
  3. Use appropriate language with both children and parents
  4. Provide adequate supervision both inside and outside
  5. Practice appropriate discipline techniques with children
  6. Maintain a cooperative, flexible attitude accepting constructive criticism
  7. Maintain a professional manner including confidentiality and appropriate communication with all parties (staff, students and community)
  8. Provide good example for students with appropriate dress, grooming and cleanliness
  9. Arrive organized and prepared adequately for each day’s activities
  10. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors
  11. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  12. Other job related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

 

Must provide documentation of the following:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • At least 24 months of qualifying child care experience and completion of 6 credit hours or more in early childhood, child development, or closely related field in an accredited college or university
  • OR 60 actual hours of instruction, provided in conferences, seminars, lectures, or workshops in the areas of early childhood, child development, or closely related field and an additional 12 hours of instruction, provided in conferences, seminars, lectures, or workshops in the area of program administration, planning, development, or management and 24 months of qualifying year child care experience
  • OR at least 18 months of qualifying child care experience and a N.A.C., C.D.A., C.C.P., or C.P.C. credential OR at least 24 credit hours from an accredited college or university, including at least 6 credit hours of course work in the areas of early childhood, child development, or closely related field
  • OR at least 6 months of qualifying child care experience and an Associate degree from an accredited college or university in the areas of early childhood, child development, or closely related field
  • OR at least 3 months of qualifying child care experience and a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the areas of early childhood, child development, or closely related field
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

Job Qualifications:

  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification
  • Possess a negative Mantoux TB Skin Test administered within 12 months of hire date or a health care provider's written and dated statement stating incumbent is free from infectious active TB issued within 6 months of hire date
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler's card
  • Obtain and maintain a valid state of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)

Abilities:

  • Read, interpret and analyze general business documents, government regulations, and technical procedures
  • Create and write reports, business correspondence and written communications with correct grammar and punctuation
  • Speak to large and small groups and respond to questions from customers, employees and community members
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms
  • Apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance

The employee occasionally will lift up to 40 lbs., walk, sit, climb, balance, kneel, crawl, taste and smell. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hand and arms. Employee will frequently interact with the public and other staff members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, distinguish colors, depth perception and focus.
