SUMMARY: To provide students with a safe, attractive and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains and cares for district grounds.
  • Cultivates soil as needed and plants seeds, trees and shrubbery under the direction of the Lead Groundskeeper.
  • Prunes trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance of grounds.
  • Mows lawns and edges sidewalks with appropriate equipment.
  • Fills with soil, gopher holes and any other uneven and hazardous areas of the grounds.
  • Fertilizes trees and shrubs on a regular semiannual basis.
  • Reports promptly major repairs needed on grounds equipment to supervisor.
  • Connects and deposes of leaves, chippings and refuse.
  • Connects sprinkling equipment.
  • Inspects shrubs and trees for evidence of disease of pests and treats with sprays or chemicals as needed.
  • Maintains and recommends purchases of suitable supplies, tools and equipment used in maintaining grounds.
  • Fertilizes trees and shrubs on a regular semiannual basis.
  • Adjusts and repairs such equipment as lawnmowers, sprinklers, and hedge shears.
  • Plants seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce an attractive appearance.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

Experience:

  • Three years (3) prior experience in grounds maintenance.

Abilities:

  • Read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals
  • Write general correspondence and speak effectively with others
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms
  • Apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to work outdoors for twelve months a year, pick up to 100 pounds and the ability to push and/or pull 150 pounds.
