REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Student Services/Principal

SUMMARY: The Teacher in this role will create an environment that meets the individual needs and abilities of students that receive special education services; socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. The Teacher will provide supports and services to students with disabilities so they may access the general education curriculum, within a full continuum of services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains all aspects and provisions of confidentiality related to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Provides case management services for students on individual education plans (IEP) including all requirements related to the IEP and compliance of federal, state and district regulations/requirements
  • Provides direct instruction to students as specified in the individual education plans
  • Development and implementation of the full continuum of services for students that receive special education services
  • Maintains accurate and complete data records as required by the district
  • Serves as a consultant in the Rtl process
  • Provides coaching and training to staff based on students' individual education plans
  • Maintains on-going communication (written and verbal) with parents/guardians
  • Provides behavior management support and behavior intervention plan implementation to staff for students that receive special education services
  • Works with staff to implement appropriate accommodations and modifications within the school setting to allow for student success
  • Attends all staff meetings and professional development courses as required
  • Provides a safe learning environment with an effective classroom management plan
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Special Education or equivalent.
  • Valid Arizona Early Childhood Special Education Certificate
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
  • Valid CPI Training Certificate
  • Possess a negative Mantoux TB Skin Test administered within 12 months of hire date or a health care provider’s written and dated statement stating incumbent is free from infectious active TB issued within 6 months of hire date.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Food Handler’s card
  • Possess and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR card
  • Two letters of recommendation

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze general business documents, government regulations, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to create and write reports, business correspondence and written communications with correct grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to speak to large and small groups and respond to questions from customers, employees and community members.

This is a district wide position so travel between district schools may be necessary.
