SUMMARY: Substitute for regular classified maintenance positions and fill temporary consecutive or intermittent vacancies in maintenance-related positions. To provide students with a safe, attractive and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop. 

 

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION AND ASSIGNMENTS ARE ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Performs miscellaneous repairs and services as assigned.
  • Installs, repairs and relocates heavy equipment as assigned.
  • Makes minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Marks athletic field.
  • Repairs walls, roofs and floors.
  • Repairs and varnishes wooden desks, chairs, tables and other furniture.
  • Sets up sound and other equipment as required.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year's prior experience in any field of mechanical repair, plumbing and cooling maintenance or carpentry.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Writing general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
  • Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations (based on assignment).
  • Customer service principles.
  • Modern office technology.

  • Following directions and meeting standards.
  • Providing attention to detail in assignments.
  • Comprehending reference books and manuals.
  • Operating and maintaining assigned tools and equipment.
  • Maintaining grounds, work spaces and related equipment.

  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

 

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require:  climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

 

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

 

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, movement restrictions and intense noise.
